25th August. NEPCO organised an Edu Day – education day for Poles in Newcastle. The event was hold in a Polish pub called The Globe at 11 Railway Street between 12pm and 3pm. There were seven people representing four organisations offering different courses for adults. The most popular were English courses, especially ESOL, offered by CSV, Learning Links and Newcastle College. NEPCO invited also Centre for Lifelong Learning offering wide range of courses e.g. music, archaeology or photography. They offer also Polish classes which we could recommend to English people.
There were about 50 people visiting the Edu Day who had a possibility to collect information and benefit from the event. It was also a new experience for the NEPCO committee to organise and manage that kind of event. In the future we plan to organise Open Days regularly, and cover different topics, e.g. financial.
The event was supported by Newcastle City Council who sponsored the promotion of the event and a meal for the Edu Day organisers.

23rd July. NEPCO representatives had an informal chat with two representatives of Northumberland Police, Department of Community Engagement. Issues related to the future co-operation were discussed. Idea about exchanging experience between police and a polish community in Northumberland was the main topic. Police is going to take part in NEPCO’s events as a guest. It is a piece of campaign which the aim is to build a trust between Polish people and the Police. There are a few ideas for the future how the co-operation might look like, i.e. workshops ‘how to behave in daily situations where police is involved’, publishing short questions/answers articles explaining the way the police works, appearance on events organised by NEPCO, co-operation in the future ‘racial equality’ project.

18th July (2pm). Group of Poles and NEPCO members has started a tour around BBC premises in Newcastle. Anna Meisel who works for BBC as a tour guide has shown us around. We've been given special red identification badges at the beginning. Then we've moved through full of working journalists office to tv studio. We've found it empty - and surprisingly small, though lots of lights and cameras have been watching each our step. We've got to know all arcana of recording a tv programme.
There are two famous red sofas in studio - in so called soft area. We couldn't have missed this opportunity and we've taken couple of group photos there. After hearing another few stories we've moved to "headquarters" with lots of TV screens, microphones, buttons... This is the place where TV programmes are put together.
And last but not least - radio studio. We've lucked into a live broadcast in next-door room, so we could have watched the recording and crew cooperation step-by-step.
Thank you all for coming - and see you soon!
NEPCO together with Anna Meisel is going to organise another BBC Tour in Autumn.
